Maybe So... (January 6)

1/6/2012

Dear Editor,

As you may recall, last year the idea if having a coffee bar at Utmost United Methodist Church had the effect of turning cats loose in the church. However, once it was tried a few times, fewer negative comments were heard. Offering decaffeinated coffee as well as other choices mitigated the resistance even more.

Major Day recruited a few of our young adults to staff the coffee bar on an alternating basis, and he provided funding. Joy Rushing discovered that the donut shop nearby often had donuts left over on Saturdays, and offered them if someone would pick them up. So, for now, we have a happy result of a right bumpy start.

Some of the first objectors now get a huge kick out of seeing kids come by after Sunday school to check the donut platter. If any are left, they happily get some. In fact, sometimes Harold Huffy is seen going down the hall, reminding the kids that a few donuts are left if they want one.

But the original reason for the coffee bar is serving well. Visitors and new members alike get an excellent chance to visit, getting acquainted with each other and the church.

Until next time ...
