The first meeting to organize Blythe Island was held on June 21, 1961 in the home of Mrs. Mary Strickland.  The second meeting was held on July 3, 1961, and at that meeting arrangements were made to purchase the present tract of land.  A tent and benches were borrowed from Lakeside Methodist Church, a pulpit desk from Arco and a piano from Mr. Chester Anderson.  On July 30, 1961, the first service was held with 16 charter members and an attendance of 22.  The Rev. I.L. Bishop agreed to serve as pastor for the first year and the first hymn sung was Sweet Hour of Prayer.

On August 4, 1961, the church was officially instituted by Dr. H. S. Brooks, District Superintendent, and on October 29, 1961, the ground breaking ceremony was held.  The parsonage was completed on January 15, 1962, and the first service was held in the present building on Easter Sunday, 1962.  In 1964, three new Sunday School classrooms were added.
