Laity and Clergy interested in being elected as a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences may declare themselves as candidates. Clergy must be a Full Conference member (ordained elders and deacons). Laity must meet the requirements outlined in The Book of Discipline’s (active participant of the United Methodist Church for at least four years and member of the United Methodist Church for at least two years). All elected persons should be willing to devote three weeks of their time to attend these conferences plus other days to meetings of the delegation. General Conference will be held April 23 – May 2, 2008, in Fort Worth, TX. Jurisdictional Conference will be held July 15 -19, 2008, at Lake Junaluska, NC. Candidates have the option of posting basic personal information, a photograph, and a 100-word statement on this website expressing their interest, issues, and qualifications to be considered by those who will elect the delegation at the upcoming Annual Conference session. This website information is intended to be sufficient and to preclude potential candidates or their supporters from sending other forms of campaign materials, printed and/or electronic, such as brochures, flyers, emails, faxes, letters of endorsement, etc. The intent is to create a level playing field and to be fair to all potential candidates.
