Campers will learn to weather life with faith
Life is a lot like the weather. Some days are warm and sunny and everything is bright. Other days bring rain, fog, and darkness. Storms can rock our foundations.
No matter the weather, it’s important to be prepared.
The same is true of our lives and faith.
This summer, through Connectional Ministries’ camping ministry, children and youth have the opportunity to explore and learn how to “weather life” and discover that, no matter what kinds of storms we may face, God is always watching over us.
“I think the theme this year will be so much fun and so applicable to ‘real life,’” said Allison Lindsey, associate director for Connectional Ministries. “We all have good days and bad days and lots to deal with, but even in the midst of the ever-changing ‘climate’ we find ourselves in, God never changes. He is faithful and always with us. He will rejoice in the good and comfort us in the challenging times. So, there’s lots to learn about our awesome God in the midst of the fun and exciting activities during the week of camp.”
Five “Storm Tracker: Weathering Life” camps are scheduled for the summer; two mid-high camps for rising sixth- through ninth- grade students and three elementary camps for rising fourth- through sixth-grade students. Held at Epworth By The Sea on St. Simons Island, the week-long camps run from June 9 through July 18.
The camp forecast promises five days of fun activities and opportunities to grow closer to Christ through daily worship, small-group time, in-depth Bible study, and fellowship. Campers will also enjoy the beach, pool, crafts, and games.
Camp counselors are provided. College students who are committed to serving Christ through working with children and youth during the summer, they have been interviewed, passed background checks, and are supervised by Camp Director Rev. C.J. Harp.
“We are excited about the 2014 Leadership Team of college students that is assembled for this summer's camps,” Lindsey said. “Many of them were campers here themselves and have been waiting for the day they could apply to be a part of this leadership group. Having an outlet to share their faith journey and impact lives of the campers is remarkable.”
