Reconsecration of Martha Bowman UMC

3/5/2015

On the evening of February 25th, nearly 200 people gathered to witness the reconsecration of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church's renovated Historic Sanctuary.  The renovation included a new organ, which was dedicated to the glory of God and in honor of Karen R. Clifton, in recognition of her 48 years of ongoing service as organist of Martha Bowman UMC.  Also included in the renovation was the gathering area outside of the sanctuary, named Damascus Hall, the fore bearer of the original church.  Dr. Rick Lanford, District Superintendent, Rev. Tim Steffen, Dr. John Horton, and Rev. Anthony McPhail (pastors of Martha Bowman UMC) all participated in leading the service.  Rick led a prayer of reconsecration and Tim shared from Genesis 28 and the power of being in the presence of God in God's house.  The sanctuary is part of a larger project that includes renovating every major interior space within the church, totaling about eight months of construction.
