UMCOR at work in Northern Iraq and West Africa
The United Methodist Committee on Relief is not only prepared for the US hurricane season, responding domestically to wild fires and helping those faced with flooding, UMCOR is at work right now around the world.
Responding to Ebola Outbreak
UMCOR has been at work with the people of West Africa since the Ebola outbreak this spring. As the disease picks up speed, UMCOR is ramping up its response. A total of $87,000 in grant money has been distributed, and UMCOR stands ready to fund additional projects. Lifesaving supplies and protective equipment are on their way to Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Working Through Partners in Northern Iraq
In Northern Iraq, UMCOR has been working with a partner who is providing food and other assistance to internally displaced people who have fled from violence. As this conflict continues, UMCOR will continue to explore opportunities for creative partnership with organizations that are seeking to alleviate suffering without regard to the race or religion of the beneficiaries.(Excerpt from statement released over the weekend)
