Safe Sanctuaries Training

Upcoming Trainings

November 12 - Pine Forest UMC, Dublin

What is Safe Sanctuaries?
Safe Sanctuaries is the name commonly given by local United Methodist Annual Conferences and local churches to their individual efforts to make conference, district, and local church programs welcoming and safe for children and youth.

What will this workshop cover?
The training day will be broken down into two sections: Basic Safe Sanctuaries & Safe Sanctuaries Next Steps.  If you have already attended a basic training you are more than welcome to join us after lunch.  Or even if you have been but would like a refresher course we welcome you for the whole day.  The following explains what will be covered in each section.

The Basic Safe Sanctuaries section will focus on:

  • Proper ways to recruit and screen workers with children and youth.
  • Proven procedures for safe ministry with children and youth.
  • Appropriate ways to report and respond to allegations of abuse for all involved.

The Safe Sanctuaries Next Steps section will focus on:

·       Best practices (screenings, off campus trips, overnight trips, mentoring/confirmation).

·       Ministries to children and youth with special needs.

·       Shepherding programs for offenders.

·       Risks related to emerging technologies.
