Join Bishop King during Bishop's Hour this fall

June 29, 2011

Bishop James R. King, Jr., episcopal leader of the South Georgia Conference, will again be visiting all nine districts this fall for the 2011 Bishop’s Hour.

These Bishop’s Hours are designed to be an intentional time for Bishop King to be in each district sharing with both laity and clergy.

“The purpose of the Bishop's Hour is for me to come out and be with the people, to draw close to them and to teach and to care for them,” said Bishop King.  “The role of a Bishop is to continue to learn and to teach how to make disciples and to lead faithful and fruitful congregations using scripture, spiritual disciplines, our Wesleyan heritage, and the history and doctrines of the Church."

Each Bishop’s Hour will include a time of singing followed by a teaching session.  This year’s teaching session will focus on disciple making.

“If we can get a picture in our minds of the Kingdom of God – as in heaven – and then how that is manifested here on earth, we will see the love of God express itself through the Church, God's instrument,” Bishop King said.

Bishop King instituted the Bishop’s Hours in 2009 with very positive feedback from laity and clergy who attended.

Churches are encouraged to gather a group and make plans to attend the Bishop’s Hour in their district.

“The past two years have been such a blessing for me.  It is my prayer that as many laity and clergy as possible will meet with me again and invite others to come for this time of spiritual inspiration and instruction,” said Bishop King.
