Join Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church in Savannah where the popular “God on Broadway” series will continue every Sunday this October. The special worship services will combine sermons with Broadway musical themes featuring songs from the musicals in celebration of God’s Word. Sunday worship services begin at 11:15 a.m. at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1008 Henry St.; Savannah, GA.
God on Broadway will kick off Sunday, Oct. 7 with “Mary Poppins,” followed by “My Fair Lady” on Oct. 14. The series will continue with “Singin’ in the Rain” on Oct. 21 and will conclude with the story of an unlikely partnership between a shoe factory owner and a cabaret performer in “Kinky Boots” on Oct. 28.
The vibrant Asbury Memorial choir will perform selections from these Broadway musicals under the direction of Minister of Music, Ray Ellis. Reverend Billy Hester offers stimulating, and sometimes amusing, sermons that blend themes from the musicals and biblical texts.
“The church looks forward to the special opportunities for worship that God on Broadway provides every year,” says Minister of Music Ray Ellis. “It’s such a unique way for us to share God’s love. We hope the community will join us to experience these wonderful worship services, as we aim to make every year better than the last.”
Rev. Hester and his wife, Cheri, have acting experience from both on and off Broadway, and they love using their talents and their former careers to enhance the worship experience. God on Broadway has been a mainstay at the church since 2005 and, each year, it draws sizable attendance of individuals who appreciate the innovative approach to sharing the Gospel and Christ’s love.
This series is free and open to the public. For more information or to view segments from past God on Broadway worship services, please visit the God on Broadway page at www.asburymemorial.org
