November 21, 2016
Witten and submitted by Ann T. Pierce, Epworth By The Sea

An historic gathering of two Georgia United Methodist Bishops, along with leading Baptist, United Methodist and Community Church preachers and teachers, and one of the nation’s leading Bible scholars, will lead the second annual Winter Conference at Epworth By The Sea, Jan.29 – Feb. 1, 2017.

The focus of the conference is on worship and spiritual formation, bridging barriers of separation to be a greater witness to the world. Throughout the Conference, the theme “Holy” will build on the desire to draw closer to God. Worship themes include: Sunday: “The Call to Be Holy;” Monday: “The Path to Become Holy;” and Tuesday: “The Outcome of Being Holy.”

Team preaching on Sunday evening will be Rev. Kenny Grant, senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Temple in Savannah; Rev. Jay Hanson, lead pastor of The Chapel Ministries in Brunswick; and Rev. David Yarborough, senior pastor of St. Simons Community Church. A community worship team will participate each evening.

Team preaching on Monday evening will be Georgia United Methodist Bishops R. Lawson Bryan of the South Georgia Conference and Sue Haupert-Johnson from the North Georgia Conference. Rev. Hanson will moderate. In addition, the Bishops will lead a panel discussion along with Rev. Hanson and Rev. Phil Schroeder, Director of Congregational Development in the North Georgia Conference, on church vitality Monday afternoon.

Rev. Grant, Rev. Yarborough, and Mrs. Anne Bosarge, Multi-Campus Director at The Chapel Ministries, will preach on Tuesday evening.

Back by popular demand is renowned Bible scholar, The Rev. Dr. J.D. Walt, former Chaplain of Asbury Theological Seminary and Chief Sower and ultimate visionary behind Seedbed.com. Seedbed seeks to resource people, communities and movements to love the whole world with the whole gospel. Dr. Walt sows like a champion each day on Seedbed Daily Text. His teaching will focus on personal and corporate holiness to become faithful disciples.

On Tuesday afternoon, a seminar on church development will be led by Rev. Hanson and Rev. Chuck Salter, President of MissionInsite, an organization which empowers churches with analytics and demographics to cultivate prospects from the community at large. The company is highly regarded as community engagement specialists on faith.

Held in the Strickland Auditorium, evening worship services, 7:00-9:00 p.m. are free and open to the public. Winter Conference sessions are scheduled throughout the day. Meals will be served cafeteria style.
