Rev. Annie Louise Johnson

Rev. Annie Louise Johnson, 94, died September 15, 2016, at the Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mint Hill, NC after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 18, 2016, at First United Methodist Church Waycross, GA with Rev. Barry Giddens officiating. Burial was in
Oakland Cemetery. Family visitation were held immediately prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers were her four grandsons and two grandson-in-laws.

Rev. Johnson was a native of Sandy Flat, SC, born on July 11, 1922, to the late J. Elmer Clark and Mattie Parker Clark. She moved to Waycross, GA, in the 1940s as part of a Southeastern United Methodist Church Jurisdiction youth caravan troupe. Being invited to work for a local United Methodist Church she made her home and lived most of her life there before moving to Mint Hill, NC, six years ago. She was a Christian Education Director at Trinity United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church both in Waycross for many years. After receiving her license to preach in 1972, she completed the course of study at Emory University's Candler School of Theology and was ordained a Deacon in the South Georgia United Methodist Conference. She served Gilchrist Park United Methodist Church in Waycross, Ga.; the West Green United Methodist Charge in West Green, Ga.; and the Manor United Methodist Church Charge in Manor, Ga. In retirement Rev. Johnson served as minister of visitation at First United Methodist Church Waycross.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, B. Morris Johnson of Mint Hill, NC; four children, Lem Johnson (Del) of Milledgeville, GA; David Johnson (Susan) of Mint Hill, NC; Mark Johnson (Amy) of Kissimmee, FL; and Alan Johnson (Trish) of Mooresville, NC; six grandchildren, Beau Johnson (Kristen) of Charleston, SC; Harli Palme (Kevin) of Asheville, NC; Jeremiah Johnson (Allison) of Monroe, NC; Eric Johnson (Terri Lynn) of Atlanta, GA; Alice Williams (Kenny) of Jacksonville, FL; and Andrew Johnson of Asheville, NC; seven great grandchildren, Mattie Clark Palme, Pearl Palme, Vivian Palme, Parker and Sam Johnson, Brooks Johnson, and Micah Williams; one sister, Lillian Cleveland of Traveler’s Rest, SC; and 16 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 410 Williams St., Waycross, GA 31501, Epworth By The Sea United Methodist Conference Center, or the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
