Rev. John Dodson Taylor, III, age 70, of 1110 Moore Drive, Americus, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Magnolia Manor. A native of Summerville, Ga., he was born Nov. 21, 1943, the son of the late John D. Taylor, Jr. and Nell Barrett Taylor. Rev Taylor has resided in Americus for eight years since moving from Rochelle in 2006. Rev. Taylor was an Eagle Scout. He completed a course of study at Candler School of Theology at Emory University and was an Elder in The United Methodist Church. He received multiple recognitions throughout his life for service to the communities and churches where he served.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Martha McDonald Moore Chapel with Rev. Charles Cravey, Rev. Marshall Singletary, and Father Don Hutchens officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church Building Fund, 411 West Forsyth Street, Americus, Ga., 31709.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Taylor of Americus; one daughter, Barbara Taylor Jackson of Reidsville; a son, Kenneth Randolph Taylor of Athens; and a brother, Randy Taylor of Atlanta. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Laura and Jonathan Pittman of Waycross and Heath Jackson of Statesboro, and one great-grandchild, Maybrie Pittman of Waycross.
