Lessons from Humpty Dumpty

June 18, 2021
PATHWAY TO HIS PRESENCE
B.J. FUNK

Our world is broken in so many places. Humanity runs here and there, searching for a glue that will stick us back the way we were. When you become broken, it is difficult to think straight. Everything about your life is in shambles. It happened to Humpty Dumpty, and all the king’s men couldn’t put him back together again!

I guess it really doesn’t matter what Humpty Dumpty was doing on a wall in the first place. What really matters is that he fell and broke into hundreds of pieces. And when he did, it was the end of him. No second chances. It was all over.

Thankfully, that’s not the way it is for you and me. When we are broken because of sin or because of emotional pain, we do get a second chance. Because of Jesus, we do not need to stay broken. How many second chances have you had? Too many to count? Me too!

Broken pieces don’t do as well as whole pieces. You might recognize broken people because you have been one at some time in your life. Maybe many times. Your brokenness landed you in a sea of hurt, a lake of pain, or an ocean of never-ending waves that slapped at you each time you tried to get up. Being broken is no fun.

Sometimes, people don’t want to get well. They like being broken. Broken brings them so much more attention. They are noticed more. Being broken brings them compassion and hugs and lots of kindness from others.

But staying broken is not healthy. Broken needs the love, mercy and grace of God to bring health and wholeness back. Humpty Dumpty didn’t have that privilege. But you do.

Jesus has ministered to many broken people, and His desire is to put them back together again. He wants that for you as well. He is the only One who can truly do this.

Jesus is our healer. The One who loves us best. He has a deep well of second chances as He calls out daily, “Come here for another chance. We will make it through this together. You are so loved!”

Are you ready to have your pieces put back? Are you ready to find new life?

Call on the wonderful name of Jesus.
