This church, in Lanier County, is located in a setting of live oak trees about 15 miles southwest of Pearson. This is the original building, used both for church and school, as directed in 1896. Probably the first preacher to hold services there was "Uncle George Washington Hadsock," a local preacher. It has been part of the Lakeland and Willacoochee Charges. Since 1963 Unity and Live Oak have been a charge. A new fellowship hall and classrooms were completed in 1982.
The church celebrated its 100th anniversary in June 1996. In March 2012, Rev. Jack Varnell, pastor of Live Oak UMC, served as chaplain of the day in the Georgia House of Representatives. Currently there are no Sunday school, UMW or UMM groups; however, there is a Children's Time at the altar during Sunday services.
