101 members of McKendree Methodist Church constituted the charter members of this church, which began with services held in the YWCA building on Union Street. The organizing service was October 28, 1962. The Waycross District Superintendent, Dr. Henry S. Brooks, and Rev. F. J. Beverly, Conference Director of Evangelism and Church Extension, were present and participated in the service. Various ministers supplied the pulpit until Rev. L. D. McConnell was assigned as the pastor. The first full-time pastor was Rev. Sam G. Rogers.
The first unit was a brick fellowship hall/sanctuary and classrooms. Groundbreaking occurred on February 10, 1963, and the first service was held in July 1963. The south unit of the church and the parsonage was completed in 1964, and the third unit in 1966. In 1982, services were held in the new permanent sanctuary. This unit contained a choir room, nursery, and foyer. Stained glass windows are a special feature. Rev. Richard Atman was the pastor during the building of the sanctuary.
