The South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church had been looking to plant a new type of Church in Houston County for quite some time. This "purpose-driven church would be less traditional in style but seriously focused on reaching the unchurched. In June 2000, the Cowart family was appointed to the Highway 41 and Highway 96 area of Houston County. Jim, Jennifer, Alyssa, and Joshua Cowart moved to the area later that year and Harvest began meeting once a month in September of 2000, at Houston County High School with about 150 people in attendance for the first service. In February 2001, Harvest started meeting every week. The present main church building was constructed in 2007. Harvest Church is dedicated to reaching out to the Middle Georgia community with the message that God loves YOU and He has a plan and purpose for your life. In 2013 and 2014 the church added additional services on Saturday night and Sunday morning and evening. In 2014, we had over 2,600 people attending every weekend and we opened up our new on-campus venue called H2! We want to continue to connect people to God in the Middle Georgia area and also all around the world.
