Lewis Memorial UMC in Evans, GA just outside Augusta is seeking a Choir Director/Accompanist. We welcome a spiritually mature, active Christian who is eager to minister to a multi-generational community through congregational, choral, and instrumental music. The Choir Director/Accompanist is a part-time position under the supervision of the Senior Pastor, who plans, coordinates, and leads and/or provides the weekly musical offerings during the Sanctuary worship services. This includes working with the worship planning team to coordinate music with the service themes and sermon focus provided by the Senior Pastor; playing the piano; providing lyrics for inclusion in slides for worship; and insuring the Choir, Ensemble, and other singers and musicians are well prepared to lead worship. Essential job functions are: Lead music in worship at Sunday Sanctuary worship services - Attend worship planning meetings to coordinate resources and organize Sanctuary worship services - Provide piano and/or keyboard music for all Sanctuary worship services and other occasional worship services, such as Holy Week and Christmas Eve - Lead rehearsal, at least weekly, of the Sanctuary Choir, soloists, and other musicians for Sanctuary worship services - Provide music for the Sanctuary Choir, ensembles, and other singers and musicians to allow adequate preparation time (Expected lead time is three weeks prior to performance) - Prepare, rehearse, and direct choirs for special services and annual Christmas Cantata - Provide music for other occasions, such as funerals and weddings, as negotiated - Coordinate preparation of lyric presentation for Sanctuary worship services. Provide Audio/Visual staff with any video or recorded music needed for presentation during worship services at least 10 days in advance - Encourage and incorporate a variety of accompanying musical instruments in Sanctuary worship service - Steward the use of the annually approved music budget as well as any other gifts which may be directed to music ministry to promote excellence in the church’s music ministry - Collaborate with the Children's Ministry leader, the Children's Music leader, and the Youth Director for age-level participation in Sanctuary worship service - Assist with annual Vacation Bible School music and stage productions - Attend weekly staff meetings at discretion of the Senior Pastor - Complete any other duties as required by the Senior Pastor. Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviors required include: Knowledge of church music for church services - Demonstrate choir rehearsal techniques - Ability to play piano proficiently (proficiency playing a pipe organ is a plus); Sight-read music; Play a wide variety of hymns and transpose hymns as required; Improvise; Accompany both soloists and choirs in rehearsals and services; Rehearse vocal and instrumental soloists and ensembles; Play four-part choral parts in rehearsal - Skilled in motivating others - Demonstrate a collaborative and cooperative approach to others: leadership, staff, and multi-generational church members - Demonstrate punctuality by arriving at church in time to ensure setup and an on-time start of rehearsal and worship service.
