Job Title: Director of Children and Family Ministries Purpose: To provide vision, leadership, coordination, and supervision to a dynamic and inclusive Children’s and Family Ministry by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach that is guided by our mission statement: “To make disciples of Jesus Christ.” POSITION SPECIFICATIONS Knowledge and experience: Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Degree in Elementary Education, Christian Education or Theological Studies with emphasis in family systems. At least three years of relevant experience in working closely with families, children and teens preferred. Demonstrated experience in building, maintaining, and leading teams Excellent organizational and verbal, written communication skills Proven leadership and management skills Ability to apply and use technology, applications, resources to communicate with parents and volunteers efficiently. Embrace United Methodist/Wesleyan doctrine Role and Responsibilities: The Minister to Children and Families has the responsibilities of leading the Children’s Ministries at Cordele First United Methodist Church, including all related staff and volunteers. The Minister to Children and Families leads and/or supervise all programming of education, discipleship, fellowship, and outreach for children infant -5th grade and gives direction to ministries that reach and grow disciples. Primary Areas of Responsibility (but not limited to): • Lead and foster a growing, dynamic and inclusive Children’s ministry that builds relationships with Christ. • Foster relationships with parents in order to build Christ centered relationships • Recruit, train, encourage, and support children’s leadership teams, enabling all to work together to plan and implement a comprehensive ministry • Coordinate and provide spiritual growth opportunities for children/family through worship, programs, and small group. • Develop programming to support partnerships with parents of children • Oversee year-round Sunday school for grades preschool program and K-5th, including teacher recruitment, ordering curriculum and resource materials, room setups and being available on Sunday mornings to oversee ministry needs including Children’s assembly, curriculum training, etc. • Collaborate with pastoral staff on ministry to of families with children including hospital visitation, home visits, prayer vigils, etc. • Plan and provide leadership for special events that occur throughout the year such as but not limited to: mission experiences, fall/summer kickoffs, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Easter and Christmas events, Fall carnival, camps, weekly/quarterly events, etc. • Prepare and maintain the Children’s Ministries portion of the church budget. • Maintain the Sunday School supply closet and assist with supply needs. Maintain the 2 children’s bulletin boards. Lead and oversee Children’s Ministry communications with staff and volunteers through website, social media, text alerts, mail, etc. • Provide bible stories and activities for Mother’s Morning out families and children • Attend weekly staff meetings, Church Council meetings, Children’s Council, and Safe Sanctuary Committee meetings • Ensure compliance in children’s ministry with all requirements of the Safe sanctuaries Policy and serve as liaison between staff and Safe Sanctuary Administrator. • Plan and provide for the security of children, students and teachers involved with Family Ministry (i.e. security check-in and retrieval, evacuation plan, volunteer screening, first-aid, and CPR training) • Provide supervision of paid Nursery Staff and volunteers • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of all Children’s and Family ministry areas and bring recommendations for needed changes and improvements to the Senior Pastor and Children’s Council. Engage in professional development and training opportunities to support the functions of Children’s and Family Ministries • Communicate with Music Minister regarding assisting with children’s choirs and programs • Other duties as assigned by pastoral staff Please submit resumes to larry@cordelefirst.com.
