Position Overview:
Bethesda United Methodist Church (BUMC), located in southern Effingham County is a growing church that’s looking for a part-time Children’s Director.  This position would be filled by someone who loves the Lord and children from age 4 through fifth grade.  This person will coordinate, direct, and expand the ministries of children. Further, the role of this person would be to recruit, coordinate, and lead adult volunteers at Bethesda as needed to support active and engaging programming that include Sunday school curriculum, Sunday afternoon programming, and seasonal events such as Vacation Bible School. This person must be Christ-centered, loving, and patient with children. He/she must have a positive personality, be organized, flexible, and creative.  This person must live and communicate a personal relationship with God and must    support Bethesda United Methodist philosophy of faith.       
Prerequisites / Requirements

  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must ensure our children are being cared for with respect to ‘safe sanctuaries’
  • Must present appropriate online presence
  • Encouraged to participate in BUMC youth activities, but it is not required
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and multimedia and social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc) to facilitate children’s outreach
  • Preference of knowledge in crisis awareness/reporting training
  • Preferrable for candidate to physically play with the children
  • Responsible for ‘Sprouts’, Children’s Church – This includes programming/curriculum, recruiting, supply lists
  • Nursery volunteer calendar
  • Must be actively attending/or plan to attend BUMC
  • Expected to ‘surf’ / oversee child participation in Sunday school.
  • Substitute teach Sunday school (if required)
  • Checking-in / out of children (security)
  • Maintain children’s database (for contact info and/or allergic, safety information) to establish connections with families
  • On an ongoing basis, plans for, organizes, and implements a children’s activity program for children
The hours and/or number of days per week may vary based on the season and are estimated to average no more than 20 hours per week.  The position compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience but is budgeted for XX,XXX.00 per year.
