Job Summary: The Program Director for Mission Ministries is responsible for the oversight of communications strategies and volunteer opportunities that are designed as entry points into service beyond the walls of the church, and others that maximize the congregation’s involvement in life-changing ministry through our partner relationships; recruiting and developing leaders; seeking and developing collaborative relationships in the community and other communities we serve; and program development, oversight and evaluation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions). • Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love and serve God. • Exemplify the church’s values and uphold the staff covenant. • Understand and be able to champion the church’s purpose, vision and journey, and the theology and traditions of the United Methodist Church. • Have a passion for helping people connect to the life of the church and become deeply committed Christians, with emphasis on those who are not currently engaged in mission service and young adults. • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and communicate effectively, resolve conflicts quickly and with integrity, and remain cheerful and effective in an environment with frequent, rapid, and last-minute changes. • Effective and creative communicator and presenter; able to design communications tools and strategies using a variety of mediums. • Able to effectively manage volunteers and teams. • Demonstrate cultural competencies; able to cultivate relationships within the communities we serve, bridging across global, racial, denominational, ethnic, and socio-economic lines. • Proven organizational skills, able to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision; must be a self-starter, highly motivated, strategic, flexible, efficient and capable of following projects through to completion. • Able to manage time effectively, problem solve, make decisions and handle constant change as a member of a dynamic and fast-paced team. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Strategic oversight of entry-point missions, including service events, packing parties, and other events in coordination with other ministry areas. • Design and develop communications – effectively utilizing print, website, video, social media, and the Connection Point to connect individuals to mission service opportunities. • Recruit, equip, and manage lay leader teams for personal and ministry growth. • Develop programming that effectively meets community needs in accordance with church goals. • Identify and develop mutually beneficial relationships with strategic partners. • Work with ministry leaders to set financial priorities and ensure adherence to budgets, and to build annual and project budgets. • Coach leaders and their teams in the development of domestic and international mission efforts that aggressively engage our congregation in service beyond the walls of the church. • Ensure that all mission partnerships complete an annual ministry assessment and have a current, effective long-range strategic plan, including a current and approved communications and spending plans. • Collaborate with other areas of ministries to promote and communicate ministry needs and events. • Collaboratively assist in the development of mission agendas and options for other ministry areas – e.g. children, youth, adult discipleship, etc. • The Program Director will meet at least monthly with the Mission Committee periodically with other ministry staff. • The Program Director will be responsible for direct supervision of the Mission Ministry Administrative Assistant. • Other duties as assigned.
