Director of Youth Ministry
33.5 + hours per week
Office hours:  Monday, 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-5:00pm;
Tuesday, 6:45am-8:15am, 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-5:00pm; Wednesday, 1:00pm-8:00pm
Sunday, 8:00am-12:00pm and 5:00pm-8:30pm; weekly staff meetings
Additional hours with Youth Leadership Lunch on Sunday afternoons, youth sporting events, meetings, etc.
 
Youth Ministry Summary:  Design, develop, and execute all aspects of youth ministry from 6th Grade through 12th Grade within Clarkesville First United Methodist Church.  Manage all paid and volunteer staff ensuring complete excellence in the love, care and spiritual growth of youth.
YOUTH DIRECTOR

  • Offers complete support and trust to entire church staff promoting an environment of “oneness” – all working together towards the same ultimate goal of life transformation through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Ongoing assessment, development, and execution of all Youth Ministry areas with primary focus on activities that support the family unit within our community
  • Works very closely with Children and Older Adult ministry staff and volunteer leaders to ensure a cohesive and consistent approach to family ministry
  • Provides a loving, caring, and accountable environment that leads students to discovering and developing a real relationship with Jesus
  • Offers age appropriate activities and studies for a separate Senior Youth Group (grades 9-12) and Junior Youth Group (grades 6-8) which includes Sunday evening activities, Wednesday evening Bible studies, and outside time for special activities
  • Develops age appropriate camps, events, retreats and mission’s opportunities
  • Assists the senior pastor with Confirmation classes
  • Identifies, recruits, trains, and encourages volunteers for all areas of youth ministry programs and events
  • Ensures Safe Sanctuary policies are adhered to at all times to protect the safety of the youth
  • Develops and supports youth and adult leadership teams that take responsibility for aspects of the youth ministry
  • Participates in community life of youth, i.e. FCA, football games, concerts, etc.
  • Educates and promotes to the church opportunities, purpose, and importance of Youth ministry
  • Maintains a yearly Youth Ministry events calendar to be updated quarterly and promotes these events through various church communications
  • Manages Youth’s Ministry social media communications on Instagram and Facebook
  • Develops a virtual program when not able to meet in person, utilizing: videos and devotionals on youtube.com; Instagram Live; Zoom calls
  • Maintains personal contact with families in the Youth’s Ministry via mail, phone calls, texts, and emails
 
  • Acts as an outreach for youth and their families when needs are apparent
  • Develops an annual budget and manages spending to ensure expenses are within the budget limits
  • Establishes a class and retreat for confirmation students
  • Participate and attend Tuesday Morning Youth Prayer Breakfast
  • Participate in local community outreach for youth, example HUB ministry.
  • Other duties as needed
CONTINUING EDUCATION
  • Continuing education is required
 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • High school graduate
  • Attended at least two years of college
  • Exhibits strong commitment to excellence
  • Strong commitment to excellence and sold out to the mission, purpose, and vision of CFUMC and the UMC Discipline
  • Demonstrate professional and Christian character in a manner that reflects credibility in the ministry and inspires a faith-based lifestyle
  • Genuine and contagious heart for God
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent public relations demeanor
  • Positive can-do attitude
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to be strategic and prioritize personal duties along with the duties of the volunteer staff with confidence and very limited guidance
  • Ability to work under tight time frames in stressful situations
  • Strong love and understanding of all youth
  • Satisfy requirements of Safe Sanctuary certification
  • Experience with youth ministry

  • This position reports to the senior pastor
