YOUTH DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION SPRINGFIELD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH The Youth Director shall be a well-trained professional, committed to follow Jesus Christ, a mission minded Bible teacher, who is committed to ministry with youth and their families. The Youth Director shall possess the administrative skills necessary to perform his or her duties and carry out details, as well as the interpersonal and relational skills for working with children and adults within the congregation. The Youth Director will be responsible for working with youth who are in the age range of sixth grade through twelfth grade. The time request is 40 hours per week. MISSION: Leading youth to follow Christ RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Plan and execute Sunday evening MYF Work with volunteers to provide snack supper Plan activities for fellowship and recreation Lead a time of worship, prayer and Bible study 2. Wednesday Night Bible Study 3. Youth Praise Team a. Coordinate leadership to work with the Youth Praise Team b. Provide leadership for practices of Youth Praise Team 4. Sunday School Coordinate Middle and High School Sunday School teachers to facilitate their classes and fellowship each week, and fill in if necessary 5. Confirmation Class a. Work with the Senior Pastor to facilitate Confirmation Class b. Attending the Epworth Weekend Retreat following Confirmation Class 6. Special Events a. Coordinate and lead i. Youth Programs ii. Camps and Retreats iii. Mission Trips iv. Group Outings v. Campmeeting 7. Help as needed with misc. activities a. Vacation Bible School b. Sports Camp c. FCA Bible Study at schools d. Help pastor with any church need that may arise e. 8. Coordinate a. Work with the Senior Pastor, Children’s Director, and Education Committee to coordinate the Youth Ministry into the total ministry of the Church b. Offer ideas and personal input about future goals for the church’s ministry with and for the youth. c. Work to develop relationship with area church Youth Directors to promote ministry to youth and their families. d. Continually evaluate activities, programs, and events against the vision and mission statement of the Youth Ministry. e. Be amenable to performing other duties as deemed necessary for the good of SUMC’s total ministry 9. Relationships a. Build relationships with the parents and youth in the church. b. Communicate with parents about the Youth Ministry programs, calendar, volunteer needs and parental concerns 10. Accountability a. The Youth Director shall be accountable to the Senior Pastor and amenable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) b. Submit a monthly report to the Administrative Board on past and upcoming events and other relative information. c. Attend monthly Administrative Board meetings. d. Should the Youth Director feel mistreated by any staff, church member, or committee in the congregation, the Youth Director may discuss any grievances confidentially within the SPRC. e. Compile, implement and maintain a Youth Ministry budget. f. Attend both 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worships services g. Attend workshops, conferences, or implement self-study to stay informed on new and effective ways to implement Youth Ministry, as well as for personal growth
