A Word from Bishop Bryan: God is our refuge and strength
To the South Georgia Conference:
As we follow closely the movement of Hurricane Matthew I want to thank all the South Georgia churches that are serving as shelters for evacuees and all others who are providing support and supplies as needed. I also appreciate those who are moving to safety themselves. My prayers are with you.
In a situation like this I am deeply grateful for the connectional system of The United Methodist Church. As our denomination responds to recovery needs in Haiti and other areas, our own conference members are doing all they can to assist their neighbors.
Thanks to Allison Lindsey and Luis Morales, our Conference Disaster Response Coordinators, for their communication to us earlier today. (Read here)
In my prayers for us all I am drawn to Psalm 46 which says: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the waters roar and foam...Be still and know that I am God."
While fully aware of the dangers involved with a hurricane, our conference is acting with the kind of faith in God that gives us the strength to respond to the needs of all those who will be affected by the storm. I thank you for serving Christ with head, heart, and hands in this situation.
Alive Together in Christ,
