More than 400 clergy and laity attended the Coastal District Conference, held Sunday, April 12, 2015, at White Bluff United Methodist Church in Savannah.
Highlights from the Coastal District Conference include: the district voted to build a new district office at a cost of more than $200,000; the district budget was approved; and the district celebrated many congregations being fully connectional, paying 100 percent or above conference and district apportionments. The 2016 District Leadership was approved and numerous mission ministries were celebrated.
Five of the district’s newest ministries shared how God is working and making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Those sharing were Rev. Matt Hearn, pastor of Gateway Community UMC in Pooler; Rev. Andy Lamon, pastor of Gateway Community Church Effingham; Rev. Jay Hanson, lead pastor of The Chapel Larger Parish in Brunswick; Rev. Andrew Young, pastor of New Covenant UMC in Savannah; and Rev. Adam Ricker, pastor of The Waterfront Church in Richmond Hill.
Following the District Conference, 12 laity training sessions were held to help equip lay leaders for their laity cluster meetings.
