“Strangely Warmed” is an expression well known to United Methodists. Of course, it is John Wesley's heartwarming experience at Aldersgate when the Spirit of God touched his heart.
But what about “Marvelously Warmed?” Here I am referring to the hearts of all of us who stay close to the Conference-wide campaign of raising funds to build the new Conference Center. Recently, our hearts were warmed by two special gifts that were given to help make the dream a reality.
One of these gifts was from the Ingleside United Methodist Church in Macon. Those dedicated folks pooled their resources and gave $10,000 for the naming of the “Work Room.” This is so appreciated.
The second gift was from the Preston United Methodist Church in Preston. The story of their gift of $255.96 is very unique. These faithful church persons began on Mother’s Day and have designated all loose plate offerings from their Sunday worship services to the Conference Center. And even though they have sent in a check, these loose plate offerings continue.
To be sure, numerous other churches, Sunday school classes, groups, and individuals have also made notable gifts to the campaign, and we are so grateful. But these last two gifts firm Ingleside and Preston UMCs are recent and marvelously warmed our hearts.
The amount given on the current campaign, encouraging 5,000 South Georgia United Methodists to give at least $100 to the Conference Center, is $98,527.16. This represents 783 donors. Thanks be to God.
