Human Relations Day – Jan. 17, 2016
Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, is Human Relations Day, one of six churchwide Special Sundays with offerings for The United Methodist Church. Human Relations Day strengthens United Methodist outreach to communities in the United States and Puerto Rico, encouraging social justice and work with at-risk youths. Click here to learn more.
GBGM groundbreaking in Atlanta – Jan. 19, 2016
In the fall of 2016, Global Ministries, the mission agency of The United Methodist Church, located in New York City for almost 200 years, will move to its new home in Atlanta. The move to Atlanta – a catalyst for envisioning new ways to connect the church in mission – is a pivotal moment in the life of Global Ministries and the people with whom it serves. In March 2015, Global Ministries purchased property from Grace United Methodist Church at 458 Ponce De Leon Avenue, where Grace and Global Ministries will share common space. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2016 at 2 p.m., at Grace UMC, where Global Ministries’ staff will celebrate with Atlanta community leaders and partner organizations. Buddy Sullivan lecture – Jan. 19, 2016
Local author and historian Buddy Sullivan will lecture at the Moore Methodist Museum at Epworth By The Sea on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. The topic is Life, Labor & Landscape: Ecology as History Along the Georgia Coast. Winter Conference at Epworth By The Sea – Jan. 31-Feb. 3, 2016
Epworth By The Sea on St. Simons Island will host a winter conference, “Unite,” Jan. 31 - Feb. 2, 2016. The focus is to "Unite" in spiritual formation and worship, bridging barriers of separation to be a greater witness to the world. The conference includes evening worship and morning Bible teaching. Co-leading worship each night will be the Rev. Jay Hanson from the Chapel United Methodist Church and the Rev. David Yarborough from St. Simons Community Church along with their worship teams. The Bible study will be taught by renowned Bible scholar Dr. J. D. Walt, former Chaplain of Asbury Theological Seminary who now serves as the Chief Sower and ultimate visionary behind www.seedbed.com. Two CEU units will be awarded. Wesley Community Centers’ Love Walk – Feb. 13, 2016
On Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, Wesley Community Centers of Savannah, Inc. will host its annual Love Walk. The 3.6K walk kicks off at 9 a.m. at Wesley (1601 Drayton Street, Savannah). Join them for rallies, door prizes, a silent auction, entertainment, and fellowship. Funds raised support programs that directly impact homeless and low income women, children, and families. Join the Journey Confirmation Retreat – March 4-6, 2016
Designed for students in the fifth grade and above, the “Join the Journey” Confirmation Retreat, set for March 4-6, 2016, at Epworth By The Sea on St. Simons Island, will provide churches of all sizes an opportunity to connect with others through worship, study, and fellowship. The event will also include large group gatherings around the church seasons and breakout sessions with topics of grace, United Methodist History and United Methodist lingo as well as a “Holy Club” highlight. Not meant to be the only confirmation youth go through, the Confirmation Retreat should be complimentary to what a church is or will be doing.
