Magnolia Manor Color Fun Run – Sept. 13
The Magnolia Manor Color Fun Run is a colorful race that celebrates the many years of providing care for Older Adults at Magnolia Manor. The Color Fun Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which participants are doused with color at each color station. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow: (1) Wear white at the starting line (2) Finish plastered in color. With no winners or official times, the Color Fun Run caters to anyone – 2 year olds to 80 year olds, walkers, first time runners to professional athletes. The Magnolia Manor’s Color Fun Run & Love Walk raises money for The League of the Good Samaritan, upholding the promise that “no one, having chosen to come to Magnolia Manor, will ever have to leave due to an inability to fully pay for care.” The Magnolia Manor Color Fun Run is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Magnolia Manor's Americus campus. Contact Sharon Brown at 229-931-5922 for more information.
Methodist Children’s Home Sunday – Sept. 21
Every local church in South Georgia is encouraged to receive a special Work Day Offering on Sunday, Sept. 21 to support the ministry of The Methodist Home for Children and Youth. The Work Day Offering for the Methodist Home is a tradition from the 1900s, a time when people, mostly farmers, donated the equivalent of one day’s wages to the Methodist Home. Sometimes they would load a freight car with cotton or peanuts and send it to Macon. Today folks just use a calculator. The amount of the work day offering can be calculated quite simply: Divide your annual income by 365 (farmers didn’t take vacation days.) For example, if a person made $60,000 a year, it would be $60,000 divided by 365 = $164. Whether you give cotton or a check, be assured that your gift will bring hope and a new lease on life to the more than 400 children and families we serve every day. Your gift will bring hope and a new lease on life to the more than 400 children and families they serve every day.
