Harper Chapel UMC hosts annual Christmas cantata

Submitted by Rev. Abra Lattany-Reed

Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Baxley held their annual Christmas cantata, “When Heaven Came Down to Earth,” on Sunday, Dec. 11. Based on Luke 2:8-14, the cantata featured the Harper Chapel UMC youth choir and included representatives from all aspects of the church’s ministry.

The sanctuary was full as more than 120 worshiped together and celebrated the Advent season.

Under the direction of Choir Director Linda Jackson, the presentation featured musical talent of every generation in the congregation. The 25-member youth choir is growing each season and serves as the centerpiece and greatest investment of the church’s ministry. The cantata event allows the congregation to present their best praise as they anticipate Christ’s arrival.

Present to worship with Harper Chapel UMC were Hopewell United Methodist Church, Baxley First United Methodist Church, members of Grace United Methodist Church in Brunswick, and several members of Baxley-area churches.

“I am grateful that I get to serve a congregation where our gifts and grace abounds and become infectious,” said Rev. Abra Lattany-Reed, pastor of Harper Chapel UMC. “Our congregation proved once again that the local church is thriving and witnessing to the community of Appling County that our Savior is present in us.”

Community means everything to Harper Chapel UMC, and the cantata provides a venue to share and proclaim as the body of Christ Jesus, Rev. Lattany-Reed said.
