"Keep your eyes on Jesus" at the United Methodist Women's annual retreat
The United Methodist Women of the South Georgia Conference will host their annual Spiritual Growth Retreat March 21-23 at Epworth By The Sea on St. Simons Island.
Coming together under the theme of “Keep calm and keep your eyes on Jesus!,” from Hebrews 12:2, retreat participants will hear speaker Allison Lindsey challenge retreat participants to run the amazing race set before them with both reflection and perseverance. They will also have opportunities on Saturday to participate in two interest groups.
“We invite women to join their sisters in Christ as we immerse ourselves in a community of loving, supportive Christian fellowship,” said Nancy Wilkes, UMW coordinator for spiritual growth. “This weekend is guaranteed to soothe your soul and strengthen your commitment to live for Christ.”
The retreat, open to anyone interested in participating, has become an intergenerational weekend, with all ages represented and encouraged to attend. Special interest groups are specially designed for young adult and teen participants. Other special interest groups include a “Return to Calmness” massage and journaling class, “Live, Love, Laugh and be Happy,” and “Bring the Scripture to Life through Drama.”
The retreat’s worship leaders are Eric Gonzales and Becky Woodard.
Nicole Walker, UMW coordinator for membership, nurture and outreach, will lead the teen and young women’s special sessions.
Retreat leaders are placing a special emphasis on the young adult and teen component, designing sessions, worship and interest groups for their specific needs, wants and spiritual growth. They will join the larger group for some worship gatherings, but will have dedicated time for learning, fellowship, and reflection.
Beginning with registration on Friday afternoon, March 21 and ending after lunch on Sunday, March 23, the retreat is designed to help participants grow closer to Christ and to strengthen their faith walk.
Retreat participants have the opportunity to bring items to benefit three South Georgia Conference mission agencies: Wesley Community Center, Open Door Community House and Vashti Center. There will also be free time for attendees to enjoy fellowship with one another and the beauty of Epworth By The Sea.
“Your spirit will be renewed as you learn to relax in the presence of the Holy Spirit, rely on the strength of Jesus, and rest in the assurance of God’s love,” Wilkes said.
