Maybe So ... (April 7)

4/6/2014

Dear Editor,

Our pastor here at Utmost United Methodist Church, Rev. Mostly Wright, bemoans the fact that Cokesbury closed its “brick and mortar” stores. He said, “I do a lot of online business, but I miss being able to go to the Atlanta store or the Candler School of Theology store and peruse actual books.”

Missy Fishency, our church secretary, likes to kid him. She says, “Rev. Wright, one day you will be able to click your iPhone and read books on the lens of your glasses!” He just grins and says, “Well, I guess I’m part Hutterite reminiscing about the olden days.”

“You just have your fun,” Rev. Wright said. “You have to admit there were advantages in going into one of the Cokesburys and browsing, scanning actual books and merchandise… even if it did mean buying more than you meant to.”

Major Day said, “You’ve got to give it to Rev. Wright. If it were not for his pressing the matter, our church would not have a website, nor use email. Not to mention many other techno advances we have made. It doesn’t take much to recall when such subjects raised all kinds of ire in board meetings.”

Until Next Time …
