Perry UMC releases "Give Us Day By Day Our Daily Bread" cookbook

Whether you want good food fast or slow; cooked on the stove top, oven-baked, or slow-cooked, you’ll find many new dishes to add to your family’s table in the newly arrived Perry United Methodist Church cookbook currently available at the church office and at several local businesses. A total of 976 favorite tried-and-true recipes priced at $15 – a terrific value and an opportunity to get part of your holiday shopping done early!

From the first recipe, Cheese Straws, through the last recipe, “Wild” Sauerkraut, readers will find tempting, easy-to-follow recipes, with some sugar-free and low-fat dishes. Included is a special recipe to mark the 75th anniversary of the movie premiere of “Gone With The Wind,” Aunt Pittypat’s Pecan Pound Cake.

The cookbook also includes value-added sections with Nutritional Guidelines, Substitutions, and Scripture for the Soul, as well as custom-designed category dividers featuring partial views of the Perry UMC stained glass windows.

All recipes have been submitted by the Perry congregation, family and friends, and are printed in an easy-to-read format listing simple-to-prepare Middle Georgia family favorites using commonly stocked pantry ingredients.

“This cookbook would make a great gift for showers, for a young person setting up their first kitchen, birthdays, a house-warming gift, and a Christmas stocking stuffer. Consider having several extra books stored away for those last minute or unplanned gift-giving occasions, to share with a neighbor or friend, or as a “just because” gift. Wouldn’t this be a great gift for a former Perry resident who has moved out-of-town, for someone who’s a cookbook collector, or for someone who enjoys reading cookbooks and finding new recipes?”, suggests Gary Stickler, a PUMC member.

The books will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings outside the sanctuary and weekdays at the church office, 1002 Carroll Street. Books can also be purchased on-line at the website, Registration/Order Forms tab, and then sent nationwide for $15 per book plus $6 shipping. The proceeds from the sale of these books assists the PUMC’s Mission Committee’s efforts on behalf of many local and global support programs. Cookbook questions can be emailed to
