Rev. Charles J. Harper
Mr. Charles J. Harper, 87, of Albany died Sunday March 1, 2015 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home.
Services were held Wednesday, March 4 at Hand Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Ken Myers and Rev. Cathy Green officiated. Interment followed at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery in Camilla, Ga.
Born in Mobile, Ala., Mr. Harper lived in Albany since 1963, He was a graduate of Foley High School in Alabama and also graduated from Auburn University. Mr. Harper was a Purple Heart Recipient during the Korean War, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He taught high school and coached football and was a member of the Rotary Club in Albany.
He was an Ordained Deacon in The United Methodist Church where he served at Stockton UMC and Robinson Springs UMC, both in Alabama. He also served at Fairview Metcalf Charge in Thomasville, Ga., Putney UMC, Baconton UMC, Newton Charge and Trinity UMC.
Mr. Harper was the owner and operator of Dahar Chemical Company in Albany, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Harper, and a grandson, Daniel Thomas Harper, II.
Mr. Harper was the loving father of his children Dan Harper and his wife Jami of Leesburg; Carrie Harper Myers and her husband Ken of Camilla, Ga.; David Harper and his wife Pat of Blakely, Ga.; Chuck Harper and his wife Joyce of Honduras; Jody Senkbeil and her husband Al of Albany; Sandra Harrison and her husband Edward of Albany; a sister Carlie Nelson and her husband Carl of Bon Secour, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
