Reverend Dr. William B. Howell, 82, of Columbus, passed Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Gentiva Hospice.
Rev. Dr. Howell was born Feb. 19, 1932, in High Point, N.C., the son of William Smith and Mary Strickland Kerr. He was a 1951 graduate of William Penn High School and also graduated from Clark College, Winston-Salem State University and The Interdenominational & Gammon Theological Seminary. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Rainbow Push Coalition and was a retired minister of M.L. Harris United Methodist Church. His survivors include one son, Nash Tony Howell; one daughter, Carolyn Howell Daboh; two sisters, Constance Hairston and Linda Howell; his children's mother, Ruth Ashworth Howell and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at St. Mary's Road United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. National Founder of Rainbow PUSH Coalition, officiated. Burial followed Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
