Rogers UMC congregation raises money to assist family with medical expenses
The Rogers United Methodist Church, of the North Central District, along with Modern Woodmen of America, co-sponsored a live and silent auction at the Recycling Center in Roberta on Saturday, Feb. 28. Included in the day was lunch, yard sale and a bake sale. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to assist a couple in the Rogers UMC congregation. The husband has not been able to work for about a year due to back surgery and a long stay in rehab and recovery. Doctors then discovered he has an inoperable brain tumor. The Rogers congregation, along with the Modern Woodmen of America, helped to plan and staff the auction and other activities. With the help of the entire community they were able to raise $17,016.62 to assist the family with medical expenses. The Reverend Eugene Barlow, pastor of Rogers UMC, said he observed the Body of Christ at work in a marvelous way, and the family expressed their gratitude for a loving and caring church and community.
