South Georgia Conference releases new mobile apps for Android and iPhone
Now you can easily stay up to date on breaking conference news and upcoming events with the newly released South Georgia mobile app. The new mobile app is available free of charge for iPhone and Android phones/tablets.
In addition to the calendar and news, features include connections to both the church locator and the clergy Locator. Users can easily view and interact with conference social media: Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Users can also receive up to the minute alerts and message notifications sent out by the South Georgia Conference communications office.
“I am really excited about having this app as a resource for clergy and laity in the South Georgia Conference,” said Kelly Roberson, Director of Communications. “Having news and information that is easily accessible makes the content we are sharing more convenient, and the more convenient the more people can stay informed.”
In the U.S., nearly 200 million persons own and use smartphones – not only for telephone calls – but as hand-held computers. Most persons with smartphones have downloaded 40 or more apps to connect to their favorite entertainment, organizations, and information.
Mobile apps are now within reach of the local church, too. United Methodist Communications’ Techshop has partnered with OCV (formerly Ourchurchvideos) to offer discounted non-profit pricing on mobile app development through www.myUMCapp.com, and on live video streaming via www.myUMClive.com.
“In today’s world, mobile apps offer the local church a better way to connect with their members,” said Suzy Keenan, communications strategist with OCV. “And mobile apps can be a new method for outreach – an innovative way for members to share all they love about their church with their family, friends, and neighbors.”
In addition to The South Georgia Conference UMC, OCV has built mobile apps for the Eastern Pennsylvania, North Georgia, Great Plains, Iowa, and Northwest Texas Annual Conferences, as well as for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Mobile apps are also in development for Texas, and Arkansas Conferences.
